Introduction

The acorn is such an interesting symbol. It hangs from among the mighty oak’s lofty branches, looming high above the elements. There it observes, until it’s ready to make its own journey and fulfill its own steadfast mission. At that time, it jumps into action finding fertile ground. While it begins to grow, other oaks keep watch as it develops into a sapling. These oaks are sentinels keeping watch, bearing witness, and maintaining tradition. The sapling matures and reaches age in their presence and takes its own place amongst the guardians. Hence, a strong oak forest renews, grows, and sustains itself through the humble acorn.

What is a Guardian?

The Mitigwa Guardians is an honor camping society to recognize those guardians of tradition at the Mitigwa Scout Reservation. The vision of the Mitigwa Guardians is the effective achievement of the vision, mission, and goals of the Mitigwa Scout Reservation. The mission of the Mitigwa Guardians is to recognize the loyalty and dedication of campers, volunteers, and staffers to the Mitigwa Scout Reservation.

Vision and Values

Like the humble acorn spreading the forest, Scouts can bring these values to humanity when nurtured and encouraged to grow amongst the mighty oaks of Mitigwa.

Hospitality

We are dedicated to inclusivity and openness in pursuit of helping Scouts and Scouters better understand themselves within the moral and ethical dimensions of the Scout Oath and Law.

Gratitude

We are dedicated to giving thanks for our community in pursuit of the Scouting movement’s goals with particular emphasis on our local servants, even those outside the Scouting community.

Service

We are dedicated to building a better world for all those we encounter, acknowledging that living the Scout Oath and Law is a life-long learning process of giving of ourselves.

Who Is A Mitigwa Guardian?

Members of the Mitigwa Guardians are recognized by their log chain. This is a term referring to the beaded necklace as a “log” of their service and dedication to Mitigwa Scout Reservation. It’s also the name given to a similar necklace used in prior Mitigwa honor camping societies. One can look upon the beads and see a story about that individual; their Mitigwa legacy. Like the rings on a tree, the log chain visually displays one’s growth at Mitigwa.
